Renewable heat grants up for grabs

Posted Date: 01st Aug 2011

From the Direct.gov Newsroom.

From 1 August 2011, householders have been able to apply for government grants towards renewable heating systems. Up to 25,000 new installations will be supported over the next year, with grants awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Registered Providers of Social Housing can also apply.

Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme

At the moment, half of the UK's carbon emissions come from the energy used to generate heat. As a result, a switch to low carbon heating is vital to meet the UK's carbon targets.

To help homeowners with the cost of installing renewable heating systems, the Renewable Heat Premium Payment scheme will provide eligible households with grants of up to £1,250.

From 1 August, grants for the following technologies will be available:

  • ground source or water source heat pump - £1,250 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
  • biomass boiler - £950 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
  • air source heat pump - £850 grant (for homes without mains gas heating)
  • solar thermal hot water panels - £300 grant (available to all British households)
